The Dial
The original ivory cream dial looks superb with original Dauphine hands and faceted applied ‘Pencil’ hour indices, giving a very classic appearance to the watch. The hands have also been beautifully restored and are in immaculate condition, matching the dial, case and movement.
The dial is a model of Rolex 1950s elegance and simplicity. The absence of a date function contributes to a perfectly balanced dial, crowned of course with the perennial Rolex ‘Coronet’ at 12 o’clock. In addition to the Rolex signature ‘Coronet’, the dial is simply signed ‘Rolex’, ‘Oyster Perpetual’ and ‘Officially Certified Chronometer’ with ‘Swiss,’ at the very bottom of the dial.
A new correct replacement Rolex lens has been fitted and therefore has no marks or scratches.
This is the original Rolex dial which has been restored to the very highest standards by the best dial restorers in the UK.
The Case
The original, Swiss hallmarked 14ct yellow gold case measures 34mm in diameter, not including the crown. This is the Rolex model reference 6085 Bubbleback case with the sought after plain bezel, which just like the rest of the case – the sides, lugs and case-back – is in superb condition. The case-back in particular is in beautiful condition and has never been engraved or damaged. The Bubbleback is so called due to the bulbous round back needed to accommodate the early automatic movement and rotor which was a little too large for the later standard flat back case when it was first introduced.
The case has been professionally cleaned and lightly polished and is looking superb. Inside the case-back all is correct and as expected, Signed, of course, with the beautifully ornate early Rolex branding, along with ROLEX PATENTED 6085, two Swiss 14ct hallmarks and 0.585-14K.
Please note, as part of the restoration we have replaced all the rubber seals on the case-back and the winding crown and stem tube. However, although the watch was specified as waterproof when new, this has not been tested and it is not guaranteed. Our standard advice applies: Vintage watches should be kept clean and dry at all times.
